Sharapova smiling as Dimitrov moves up the rankings

Grigor Dimitrov has improved as a pro while the two have been together, Maria Sharapova said.

Sharapova, who has been dating Dimitrov for two years, finds it enjoyable to have a relationship with another player and see his increasing success. "It's just obviously nice to have each other, and even though we have our respective careers and we train, to kind of have other's support is always nice," she told the Melbourne Age.

"I think that he's grown so much in the few years that I've even been with him in terms of his focus and commitment to the sport.  Obviously, I've always kind of watched his career grow from the junior days, and to be able to see him stride in the top direction really puts a smile on my face, " she added.

Dimitrov has become fitter and more professional, especially since starting to work with coach Roger Rasheed—he has won won four titles and reached his first Grand Slam semifinal.

"Been working with Rog I think over a year now, and I think we established a really good platform, a work ethic, and I think a good relation," said Dimitrov following a first-round triumph in Australia. "I think all those components in a way are really, really important, especially when you want to have such a close and tight relationship with a coach. It's never easy. But at the same time, I think we sort of found our way of practicing, of scheduling, of doing things in the right way."

Sharapova, in an interview with Daily Mail Australia, also noted that the two pros don't always get to spend a lot of time together, even at the same tournament. "We don't really have that much time during the tournament because our schedules are quite different," she said, adding that they usually get together once play is done for the day. "It's always nice to catch up."

Grigor Dimitrov vs Dustin Brown 1 round Australian Open 2015, highlights

Dimitrov in 2 round in Australian Open

Grigor Dimitrov easily passed the 1 round of the Australian Open, defeating Dustin Brown, 6: 2, 6: 3, 6: 2 and advanced to the 2nd round where he will face Lukas Laco. The match is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Bulgarian was satisfied with the game.

This was the beginning wanted?

 - Yes, it was a good start for me. Of course, I expected to be difficult. The conditions were good. I think everyone is difficult to find a rhythm and get used to the court. It was quite windy. I think my start was good.

What are your goals for this year?

- Always have goals, especially when it comes to the Grand Slam. This does not mean that others are less important, but in each race to go to win. At the same time we know that one event can change all of your program. So if I can summarize my goal is to win where I play. But above all, the specific purpose ... I do not think I'm a man.

From working with Roger Rasheed, how much improved. What has changed?

- Together we are more than a year and find a good platform to work. We have a good relationship. All of these components are very important, especially if you want to be close to his mentor. Although I do not think that we are perfect, but we develop all deteyli - training, planning, participation. I think very positively affects my game. I would say that it is about the details. Especially in big games and important points.

Helps in this style is an Australian?

- I think so. But I always have great support in Australia. Sometimes I feel like a local when I see all these people on the court, shouting at me. It certainly helps and stimulates.

Did you know that some Bulgarian fans?
- Private - no, but I think here last year and it is great to see them again.

Dustin is a strange player. As might be hard on him?
- It's never easy for him, but I knew what I must do. Most importantly, I entered the pitch collected and calm. I do not think I left him a chance to play and use their best shots. I think it derail. After a few breaks, I realized that the game will be good for me, but I had to focus on.

Does he know personally?
- Yes. More or less.

Helps success in court if friendly and helpful? This makes it easier to deal with moments of stress and tension?
- I think it helps, but sometimes I think it might suffer the negative, if you think about it. I just never thought about this issue. I think that when it comes to some of the games that can help. At the same time should think isolated. If you are playing against a really good friend, not so friendly on the pitch. On the other hand, can be a lot of things out of court, but everything is decided. Come out to show your best game and forget about everything else.

  Is shy to court?
- Do not.

How the court?
- Courts are fast. During the warm-up it was dark and cold, and I asked, "Lord, so there will be a full version of the game?". But then it became sunny and pleasant, but quite windy.

Milos Raonic has a new hairstyle. Nick Kiryos also interesting hair. Have a question, and you haircut, right?
- I think I went through that phase. I made a nice haircut. I think you guys look good, but how the audience will appreciate them. (Laughter)

Grigor Dimitrov Press Conference,  Australian Open

Dimitrov : "My game is complete"

Australian Open tenth seed Grigor Dimitrov says he's not surprised at the success he achieved last year and believes his game is now complete.

The high-profile Bulgarian, dubbed "Baby Fed" for his playing similarities to the great Swiss and a picture-perfect one-handed backhand, posted a 50-18 record in 2014 in winning three titles.

It was a breakthrough year for a man who, along with Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, is seen as one of the players most likely to end the dominance of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The 23-year-old, who has improved his year-end ranking seven years in a row, is oozing confidence going into the opening Grand Slam of the year next week at Melbourne Park.

"I'm not surprised that I had big results last year because two years ago I just started to win some titles," he said Saturday, having won tournaments at London, Bucharest and Acapulco.

"I had more experience than before. I was improving a lot I think in my game. I'm much stronger now than before.

"My game is complete now."

Dimitrov, who cites Pete Sampras as his idol, made the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year and the last eight at the Australian Open, but has yet to make a final.

He is relaxed about his chances at Melbourne Park this month, believing that any of the top 20 had a shot at winning.

"I can say now I feel no pressure," he said ahead of his opening round clash against German Dustin Brown.

"I just have to play my game during the matches and see how good I can be, how many results I can get, how many matches I can win."

Grigor will play on Monday , first match on court 2 , 11am
