Dimitrov afer his match with Troicki in Sofia Open.

Home favourite Grigor Dimitrov delighted the Bulgarian fans as he reached the semi-finals of the Garanti Koza Sofia Open with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over last year’s runner-up, Viktor Troicki, on Friday.

“I was feeling the ball a little bit better, serving well and returning great, so all of those things helped me out there against Viktor,” said Dimitrov. “It’s the first time for me to be in the semi-finals here, so it’s hard not to be excited. It’s been a long time since I’ve played in front of a home crowd and they’ve been crazy all week, so I’m just trying to take it in and enjoy every moment."

The Haskovo native is contesting an ATP World Tour event in Bulgaria for the first time and has returned home to a hero's welcome after reaching theAustralian Open semi-finals, where he pushed Rafael Nadal all the way in an exhilarating five-set battle. Dimitrov was given a scare in his opening match on Thursday night against Jerzy Janowicz, eventually prevailing 7-5 in the third set, before a more straightforward victory over Troicki.

The 25-year-old Dimitrov is set to play in front of a sell-out 12,000-strong crowd this weekend at the Arena Armeec Sofia when he faces Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Georgian player continued his outstanding week in Sofia by overcoming a slow start to defeat eighth seed Martin Klizan 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. This is Basilashvili’s second time in an ATP World Tour semi-final, having finished runner-up this past July in Kitzbuhel (l. Lorenzi).

Interview before Sofia Open.

"There were times when we really could not gather himself to focus, to train the way that was profitable. In the middle of last year it was mentally more difficult for me than physical. Just lost your way to success. " It acknowledged in an interview with NOVA Grigor Dimitrov.

"When you go home after 3-4 days of rest always excited the first day on the court today. I'm eight years on the tour, playing tennis 3-4 years and every time I go out on the court, the feeling is special. Sometimes it's much more exciting than the process itself.

Dimotrov will start the tournament against the winner of the match between Jerzy Janowicz or Dudi Sela.

The best Bulgarian tennis player is placed under №3 in the main draw and launched directly from the second round.

"At the beginning of the year you can always feel the tension in the dressing room, especially in Australia. Nobody says a word everyone is doing their things even number 1,2,3 in the world. This makes us more focused, more prepared. But also happy because this is something I'm looking at myself in the game, then I feel more alive, more excited. "

For the match against Nadal and half-final of the Australian Open Grigor said that he had made perfectly concentrated and sensed how long was actually the fight.

"It was one of the most interesting matches. I played the game 20-30 times in my head, I called my mother and my father and just talked to them. I could not sleep, I wondered where you've done wrong, what have I done wrong in the game, what I better do. But as times go through the script to match many times I felt satisfied with myself because I played well on the important points. "

"I felt that I deserve match. Lost in tennis there is always only one champion, but a few days later I could think a little more on the pros and cons. One player takes time to start playing good tennis and each begin to be scared of him. Important psychological advantage because when you go into the locker room, everyone looks in a slightly different way and 20% of the game is yours. "

"Everyone has a different path and it takes different time," said another Grigor Dimitrov and added that his physical preparation has been first, then simplify your game and finally tactics. Our first rocket said the great influence and have a team where a player is drafted.

"And before I've had good results with other coaches, but Danny chemistry us from the start was very good. The difference between us is only five years, we understand well, we can speak a common language. But I must not forget what I've done in recent years - invested workouts efforts. When we started it, it was just hell. Communication is one of the most important things. There are periods when we do not want to hear and see what is healthy for a relationship between coach and player. "

"In the game you start to appreciate things more. I'm 25, hopefully that for many years I'll play tennis. Currently many more appreciate every win and every loss. "

"With Federer always maintained contact. I appreciated him as a player, and a little later and as a friend. I've always had an idol, always watch his matches. Sometimes even use his tactics against a player, "revealed Grigor.

At the end Bulgarians and talk about your first steps in men's tennis: "When I look at some of the young players at the moment do not make some of the mistakes that I've made. Apparently serve as a good example. "
